Concepts can be overrated. After a few years of coming up with witty or subversive concepts for the club nights at Ministry of Sound I’d noticed a consistent trend with the briefs that would come in. The club nights were the core of the brand, they were where everything started. The DJs, the music, the intensity of the feeling in the main room. I looked back at the earliest flyers from the late 80’s and early 90’s. Many were monotone, basic ‘non-designs’, created by promoters to get the word out quickly and cheaply. I decided to try stripping everything back to it’s core - let the typography do the talking.
